December VFACTS figures are out for 2025 so we can see what were the best-selling cars in Australia for the year. Tesla and Polestar do not report sales to VFACTS, so for this report those sales are excluded (aside from a special mention in the overall brands leaderboard just below).
Firstly, in the month of December there were 98,744 sales (new vehicle registrations) according to VFACTS, which is up 3.0 per cent on last December. And then across the year (YTD) there were 1,209,808 sales, down 0.9 per cent compared with 2024.
As for the most popular new vehicle brands, Toyota remains at the top both for the month and for the year. Quite easily, actually. But further down the top 10 we see some reshuffling of other brands, with MG dropping from 7th in 2024 to 10th in 2025, while BYD jumps into the list at number 8.
