BMW M will celebrate the Nurburgring’s 100th anniversary with a range of special edition models, with the ‘100 Jahre Nürburgring’ series confirmed for Australia. Six models are receiving special treatment; the BMW M2, M3 sedan, M3 Touring, M4 coupe, M5 sedan and M5 Touring.
The most obvious change is a new Nurburgring Green exterior colour developed specifically for the anniversary range. Black Sapphire metallic will also be offered as an alternative.
Each model receives graphics incorporating the outline of the Nurburgring Nordschleife track, along with “100 Years” and “Nurburgring since 1927” detailing. Depending on the model, these appear across areas including the doors, rear quarters and C-pillars.
BMW has also developed unique roof graphics for the editions. The M2, M3 sedan, M4 and M5 sedan incorporate the design into their carbon-fibre roofs, while the M3 Touring and M5 Touring receive similar treatment on their steel roof panels.
Further green highlights are applied to selected wheels and kidney grille surrounds, with individual details varying between models.
The anniversary cars are otherwise based on BMW M’s existing high-performance range. The M2, M3 and M4 retain their inline six-cylinder powertrains, while the latest M5 use BMW M’s V8-based M Hybrid system developing 535kW and 1000Nm combined.
Often described as one of the most challenging and daunting circuits in the world, the Nurburgring has long played an important role in BMW M vehicle development, where production and prototype models undergo extensive chassis and durability testing.
BMW describes the circuit as effectively a second home for its M division, with the special editions intended to highlight the relationship between its road cars and development work at the track. The Nurburgring opened in 1927, making 2027 its centenary year.
BMW Australia has confirmed the 100 Jahre Nurburgring editions will be offered locally, although it has not yet announced which of the six models will come here, how many will be available, or pricing and arrival timing. Further Australian details will be announced closer to launch.
