BMW has set a new Nurburgring Nordschleife lap record for the compact car class, with a track-focused version of the M2 equipped with a new M Performance Track Kit lapping the famous German circuit in 7:25.068.
The time was set on May 22 and independently verified by TUV Rheinland. BMW says the run took place in less-than-ideal conditions, with high track temperatures and oil residue on one section of the circuit adding to the challenge.

According to the company, the lap is half a second quicker than the previous record, set by the BMW M2 CS. Rather than relying on additional engine performance, the enhancements come from a combo of chassis and aerodynamic upgrades designed specifically for circuit driving.
The M Performance Track Kit introduces an adjustable front splitter, front aero flicks and a manually-adjustable swan-neck rear wing that includes a dedicated Race Mode setting. BMW has also developed a new coilover suspension setup featuring motorsport-derived dampers that remain road legal.

Aerodynamic components were developed in BMW’s wind tunnel, while chassis tuning was carried out with input from BMW M engineers, including test driver Jorg Weidinger, who is responsible for much of the brand’s chassis development work.
BMW says the M Performance upgrade package is aimed at owners who regularly attend track days and want greater precision and stability without sacrificing the M2’s road legal status.
BMW has not yet confirmed whether the M Performance Track Kit will be offered in Australia, and thus local pricing is yet to be finalised. See below for the full lap video:
