Kia previews new ‘EV7’ electric sedan, to become 2027 Stinger?

Kia has previewed a swoopy new electric concept sedan with a dome-like DLO (glasshouse), short front and rear overhangs and a similar, futuristic silhouette to the Toyota Corolla concept shown at Tokyo last month.

The car’s bubble roof features parts of the structure which extend into the roofline, with double A-pillar and a C-pillar window. It is expected to become a replacement for the Stinger performance hatchback.

Kia president, Ho-sung Song, told Autocar: “That kind of model is under study. What kind of model can help build the brand? This is what we are now studying.”

If the car reaches production, it could be badged as EV7 or EV8, but would likely be an advanced electric hyper sedan to rival the likes of MG IM5 and Xiaomi SU7 – essentially, cut-price rivals to the Porsche Taycan.

The Stinger is remembered fondly by Aussies as a twin-turbo V6 (and less popular 2.0-litre turbo four) sports touring hatch which filled the void left by the Holden Commodore, and perhaps more directly the Falcon XR6 Turbo. It was even popular among Australian police for a while as a highway patrol car.

What do you think, should Kia bring back the Stinger name for an electric sedan?
