NVES be damned. Cupra has today revealed pricing for something rare and and very rapid; the 2027 Cupra Formentor VZ5. From $94,990 excluding on-roads or $101,990 drive-away, the limited run SUV will comprise of 100 locally-delivered units (of 4000 globally) between December 2026 and March 2027.
Sporting the cracking 2.5-litre turbo five-cylinder engine seen in the likes of Audi RS 3, it belts out 287kW and 480Nm in this, sent through a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic with all-wheel drive. Acceleration from 0-100km/h is taken care of in 4.2 seconds.

An electro-hydraulic toque-vectoring rear differential and adaptive dampers join six-piston Akebono front brake calipers hiding behind 20-inch black and copper-toned alloy wheels. To telegraph its sinister intentions, the VZ5’s bodywork includes flared wheel arches, a bespoke rear bumper and an exclusive colour palate.
Inside, a Sennnheiser premium sound system with Sabelt CUP bucket front seats, a panoramic sunroof and carbon fibre seatbacks mark this out as a future collectible.

All these ingredients make it one of our most anticipated new car launches this year, in our view, having sampled the demonic five-cylinder engine before. Cupra Australia’s brand director, Jerome Figuiere, justified the inclusion of the VZ5 with the following statement:
“The Formentor VZ5 represents the most expressive side of Cupra performance. It’s crafted for drivers who connect with emotion, instinct and individuality. With limited numbers available, we’re excited to bring this flagship model to the most passionate members of the Cupra Tribe.”
First examples are scheduled to roll in from around December this year. Prices start from $94,990, as mentioned.
