Cupra Formentor VZe (PHEV) price slashed to $47,990 drive-away

Cupra has launched a sharp run-out campaign for its 2024 Formentor VZe plug-in hybrid, cutting the price to just $47,990 drive-away with extra equipment bundled in. The deal includes the optional leather and camera package as well as a panoramic sunroof.

The move comes after the federal government’s Fringe Benefits Tax exemption for plug-in hybrids expired in April this year. In response, Cupra has introduced its own “e-Hybrid Subsidy” which is described as a national program aimed at keeping the Formentor VZe competitive and accessible.

It should also help shift units out the door for the model year 2024 in preparation for the new model which is set to arrive next year. It’ll bring a larger battery, more power (local specs pending), and longer electric driving range.

As one of the only plug-in hybrids in its class, the Formentor VZe blends bold styling with an electrified powertrain offering up to 50km of electric driving. Official consumption is rated at just 1.9L/100km, making it one of the most frugal performance crossovers on sale.

Under the bonnet is a 1.4-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder paired with an electric motor to deliver a combined 180kW and 400Nm. This is sent through a six-speed dual-clutch transmission, which is far more engaging than the usual CVTs fitted to hybrid setups.

Adaptive suspension, 19-inch alloy wheels, and a suite of drive modes underline the SUV’s dynamic focus, while safety systems include adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance, autonomous emergency braking, and semi-autonomous Travel Assist.

Other standard features include a 12-inch infotainment display with navigation, digital radio, wireless smartphone mirroring, and wireless charging. The VZe also comes with a leather steering wheel, tri-zone climate control, power tailgate, and keyless entry. With the run-out offer, buyers also gain Nappa leather upholstery with power adjustment and heating for the driver, plus a panoramic glass roof.

The special drive-away price is available for a limited time only. For reference, the regular retail price for the VZe before this deal was announced was $64,990 (excluding on-roads).
