2025 GWM Cannon 2.4L now on sale in Australia, price from $40,490

GWM has confirmed Australian pricing and specifications for the new 2025 Cannon ute, with the updated dual-cab model set to arrive in dealerships this February. Featuring a more powerful 2.4L powertrain, increased towing capacity, and a more refined interior, the latest model is designed to better suit the needs of Australian buyers.

A key highlight of the update is the introduction of the 2.4-litre turbo-diesel engine, as seen in the Cannon Alpha. It produces 135kW and 480Nm, which is up from the weak 120kW/400Nm in the outgoing 2.0L. Paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission, the setup promises better performance and efficiency.

On the official combined cycle, the new unit offers a fuel consumption rate of 8.4L/100km. That’s down from 9.4L/100km in the 2.0L. However, despite presenting increased power and torque, and reduced consumption, the powertrain still falls behind almost all rivals in all three metrics.

The ute retains its robust 4×4 drivetrain, with an electronically-activated rear differential lock as standard and an electronically locking front differential exclusive to the top-spec XSR variant. GWM has also integrated selectable intelligent all-terrain drive modes, with up to seven settings, including Normal, Eco, Sport, Snow, Mud, and Sand (depending on the grade).

With a class-matching 3500kg braked towing capacity, the 2025 Cannon remains a strong contender in the dual-cab ute segment.

Available exclusively as a 4×4 dual-cab pickup, the 2025 Cannon is offered in four grades, spanning from the Lux, Ultra, Vanta, and XSR. Prices start from just $40,490, so it remains as one of the cheapest utes currently on the market.

GWM has given the model a refreshed exterior look with sculpted bonnet lines, pronounced wheel arches, and a bold front grille, while the tailgate now features an embossed “GWM” badge for a stronger road presence.

Inside, the Cannon sees a significant step up in refinement. Soft-touch materials, chrome accents, and a modern layout enhance the cabin’s premium feel. A high-definition 12.3-inch touch-screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto takes centre stage, while a free-standing 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster provides clear driver information. Other features include a redesigned steering wheel, smartphone charging pad with USB-A and USB-C ports, and an aviation-inspired gear shifter.

Safety remains high, with the 2025 Cannon carrying over its five-star ANCAP rating (except for the untested XSR). It comes with seven airbags and a comprehensive suite of active and passive safety technologies.

The new model is on sale now from the following prices (drive-away):

2025 GWM Cannon Lux 4×4 dual-cab: $40,490
2025 GWM Cannon Ultra 4×4 dual-cab: $43,490
2025 GWM Cannon Vanta 4×4 dual-cab: $45,490
2025 GWM Cannon XSR 4×4 dual-cab: $49,990
