Porsche has announced a comprehensive update for the 2027 Taycan range, introducing new technology aimed at making its flagship electric sports car more engaging to drive while also improving charging capability, connectivity and day-to-day usability.
The biggest change is the introduction of a new E-Shift system, which simulates gear changes through a combination of software, sound and vehicle responses – a bit like what is offered in the Hyundai IONIQ 5 N and IONIQ 6 N. Available across the Taycan lineup and fitted as standard to the Taycan Turbo GT, the feature is designed to inject a more traditional performance-car character into the electric driving experience.

Drivers can select either automatic or manual operation, with manual mode allowing shifts through eight virtual gears using steering-wheel-mounted paddles. Porsche says the system delivers noticeable shift sensations, simulated engine braking characteristics and a virtual rev limiter, while a revised Electric Sport Sound adjusts its tone depending on vehicle speed and load.
A dedicated rev counter graphic and gear indicator are also incorporated into the digital instrument display to complete the experience.
Alongside the dynamic enhancements, Porsche has introduced a new generation of its Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system. The updated software adopts the brand’s latest digital interface, first seen on newer electric models, with substantially greater processing power and faster response times.

The redesigned layout features configurable widgets, a new vehicle control hub and expanded smartphone-style functionality. A 3D representation of the vehicle is displayed on-screen, allowing drivers to access key functions directly through an interactive model of their own car.
Artificial intelligence also plays a greater role in the latest system. Enhanced voice control allows more natural conversations, supports follow-up requests without repeated wake commands, and can operate vehicle functions, navigation and selected applications through spoken instructions.
Navigation has also been upgraded with improved online route planning, enhanced charging guidance and more detailed mapping displays.

Owners will be able to install future infotainment updates over-the-air, while wireless smartphone charging performance has been increased through the addition of a magnetic charging system capable of delivering up to 25W of charging power.
Further changes extend to the battery and charging systems. The larger 105kWh Performance Battery Plus now becomes standard equipment on Taycan, Taycan 4 and Taycan 4S variants, replacing the smaller battery previously offered on some models.
The larger pack not only increases energy capacity but also raises maximum DC fast-charging capability to 320kW when connected to compatible 800-volt chargers. A new battery health display has also been added, providing owners with greater visibility into long-term battery condition.
Charging convenience has been improved through the adoption of a native NACS DC charging port positioned on the passenger-side front guard, while the existing AC charging port remains on the driver’s side. Porsche will supply a CCS adapter for compatibility with existing charging infrastructure in some markets.

For performance-focused customers, Porsche is also expanding options for the Taycan Turbo GT. Buyers of the Weissach Package-equipped version can now specify a Manthey performance package featuring aerodynamic revisions, suspension upgrades, larger front brakes and revised wheel-and-tyre specifications.
According to Porsche, a Taycan Turbo GT fitted with the Manthey package recently recorded a Nurburgring lap time of 6:55.553.
The 2027 update also broadens Porsche’s Paint to Sample program, increasing the available colour palette to 153 finishes. Newly added choices include historic Porsche shades such as Shark Blue and Python Green, alongside fresh additions like Loretta Purple and Rose Red.
While powertrain outputs remain unchanged, the latest round of upgrades focuses on making the Taycan a more emotional, connected and technologically-advanced electric car, while simultaneously improving charging performance and everyday convenience.
Porsche Australia is yet to announce local timing, specs and pricing. Overseas deliveries are scheduled to commence in the third quarter of this year.
