Here it is. The most powerful production Porsche ever. The Taycan Turbo GT. This is the crazy package we saw out on the Nurburgring during prototype testing last year.
And testing must have required an astronaut suit with special g-force clamps around the legs, because this thing is nuts. So nuts that it has already set a lap record around Laguna Seca Raceway in California, clocking a lap in 1:27.87, and the Nurburgring with a time of 7:07.55.
The new model is based on the Taycan Turbo S only it is turned up ever higher. A twin-motor setup consists of a more powerful pulse inverter. The two motors develop a combined 580kW. With the Launch Control mode activated that goes up to 760kW, or there’s two seconds of 815kW if calculated by the peak power measurement method. Torque is rated at 1340Nm.
As you can image, acceleration is mind-blowing. Porsche claims 0-100km/h in a barely-believable 2.3 seconds, or just 2.2 seconds with the optional Weissach package. That is absolutely insane. The g-forces would be catastrophic. It can also cover the 0-200km/h sprint in 6.6 seconds, or just 6.4 seconds, respectively.
Going for the Weissach pack adds a number of hardcore components mainly focusing on track performance. Some of the items include a fixed rear wing, bespoke underbody aero treatment, and an aggressive front splitter, all capable of generating 220kg of downforce at speed.
Various weight reduction measures also help to cut 70kg from the total weight, with the rear seats deleted and replaced by a carbon fibre insert, while the Bose sound system is replaced by a special lightweight audio kit called the Sound Package Plus.
As standard, though, the new Turbo GT is 75kg lighter than the regular Turbo S, thanks to carbon fibre parts, bucket seats, and a manual boot lid. There’s also 21-inch forged wheels, and a unique aerokit with lip spoilers front and back, side skirts, and rear diffuser.
If drivers are really keen, there’s an Attack Mode button which provides 120kW of extra power for 10 seconds. Porsche says it has optimised the system so it functions like the 99X racing cars, with the button ergonomically positioned for easy reach. Speaking about the new model, Lars Kern, race driver and lap time record-setter, said:
“The Turbo GT with Weissach package sets new standards in almost every metric. These include acceleration and braking, an Attack Mode that’s intuitive to use and a powertrain designed for maximum traction and performance.
“You can also trigger the boost with racing gloves, and without taking a hand off the wheel. With this simple, safe and fast means of operation, the Taycan Turbo GT models are tailored to the needs of a racing driver.”
Porsche Australia confirms the Taycan Turbo GT will arrive locally priced from $416,600, with or without the Weissach Package (excluding on-roads). Additionally, local models come standard with the following:
