Hyundai unveils Inster Cross electric SUV, confirmed for Australia

Hyundai has revealed the slightly off-roady version of the cute new Inster electric city car, called the Inster Cross. The adventure-focused variant has been confirmed to hit Australia in Q1, 2025.

It basically blends the practicality of a compact SUV with bold, rugged design elements aimed at outdoor enthusiasts, with the functionality and ‘zip-ability’ of a fun city car with small proportions to make it easy to thread around the city.

The Inster Cross distinguishes itself with a more robust exterior, featuring unique front and rear bumpers, embossed black cladding, and protective skid plates. Complementing the styling are a set of 17-inch alloy wheels, side rocker panels, and standard roof racks, with an option to add a roof basket for extra cargo versatility.

For those looking to stand out, the Inster Cross will be available in an exclusive Amazonas Green Matte paint, alongside five other exterior colour options, some of which offer a contrasting black two-tone roof.

Inside, the Inster Cross sports a unique grey cloth interior with lime-yellow accents, adding a playful, modern touch to the cabin. Like its base model, the crossover boasts a spacious interior with fold-flat seats, 50/50 split second-row seating with sliding/recline, and an open console and access in the front row, offering enhanced flexibility for both daily commutes and weekend getaways.

The Inster Cross offers a claimed range of up to 360km on a single charge. Charging is quick, with the ability to go from 10-80 per cent in about 30 minutes with 120kW DC fast charging. Motor outputs haven’t been detailed specifically for the Cross, the but the regular Inster will be offered in two guises; 42kWh or 49kWh battery, with 71.1kW for the standard and 84.5kW for the long range.

The model also comes equipped with Hyundai’s advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), including Highway Driving Assist 1.5, Smart Cruise Control, and Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist 1.5, making it as safe as it is versatile.

Production of the Inster Cross will begin later this year at Hyundai’s plant in Korea, with an Australian introduction planned for the first quarter of 2025. It will be quite a unique package, especially in Australia, as there are currently limited options in the fully electric compact crossover space right now.
