Hyundai Australia has announced some pretty significant prices cuts for its Kona Electric and Inster electric vehicles (EVs), offering savings of almost $14,000.
This seems to be a going trend at the moment, with many car brands cutting prices of their EVs in the last 12 months or so. Hyundai hasn’t specifically said why these prices cuts are being deployed.

These latest drive-away price cuts are for the Kona and Inster. Available in Standard Range and Extended Range, the Kona Electric can now be had from $45,990 drive-away for the base model, which is $13,157 down on the previous price.
Moving up to the Kona Electric Premium (pictured above), it’s now available from $59,990. It offers the biggest price cut, of $13,857. The Premium N Line flagship variant is also slashed by $13,007, to $63,990 drive-away.
Hyundai says the gap between powertrain choices has been reduced as well, with the base 2.0L petrol starting from $36,490 drive-away (down $558), only $3500 less than the HEV hybrid base model which now starts from $39,990 drive-away. However, the company says the base 2.0L drive-away price will increase slightly to $36,990 from February and March.
And then the jump from the Kona HEV hybrid to the base Electric is $6000, which is a much smaller step than the previous pricing which had a jump of around $20,000.

As for the cute little Inster, the base Standard Range is now $35,990 drive-away. That’s a cut of $7288. We liked the Inster a lot, but it’s price was always a bit far-fetched for what it is. The new price makes it a much more desirable package.
The drive-away price deals are offered around Australia, with the savings represented here based on NSW registration. See below for the full list:
