The MG Cyberster fully electric sports car made its second debut in Australia this week, as excitement builds for the arrival of what will be the quickest and most expensive model it has ever offered.
It will enter the market with no direct competitors, not in terms of being a fully electric convertible sports car. Full Australian specifications are yet to be confirmed, however, the local arm has said the twin-motor system will produce 375kW. That’s enough to cover 0-100km/h in a claimed 3.2 seconds.
Power is supplied by a 77kWh battery, in overseas spec, providing a range of 520km (CLTC). It is a heavy beast though, tipping the scales at around 1984kg in AWD form. That is heavy for an open-top sports car but average for a fully electric car.
In Australia, customers will have a variety of colour combinations to choose from, including red or yellow for the exterior, and white and grey, or black and red for the interior. The Cyberster will also come standard with an eight-speaker Bose sound system.
As for the roof, it’s an electric-folding mechanism that takes around 15 seconds to deploy, with power-lifting scissor doors helping to create that dramatic entrance. Speaking about its arrival, MG Motor Australia’s national sales manager, Brad Chruszcz, said:
“The Cyberster pays respects to 100 years of MG creating vehicles that people love to drive. I want it to be Q4 already so we can share our first ground-up, all-electric roadster with Aussie enthusiasts. We will be bringing limited numbers of these cars into the country so it’ll definitely be a case of supply verse demand given the interest we’ve already had from the public and our 90-plus dealers.”
Although the Cyberster is on sale now, prices are yet to be confirmed. MG says it will cost somewhere between $100,000-150,000. Showroom entry is scheduled to commence in October. Stay tuned.
