MG Cyberster price confirmed for Australia, starts from $115,000

The new MG Cyberster is now on sale in Australia, priced from an eye-watering $115,000. That makes it the most expensive MG ever, but it’s also the quickest MG ever.

Although MG likes to describe the new Cyberster as “drawing on the history” of classic MG sports cars, the Cyberster couldn’t be further separated from those UK-made classics. For starters, the new model is fully electric and is made in China, unlike the old-school four-cylinder machines made in the UK.

Nonetheless, it is an interesting model for Australia because, today, it is the only open-top fully electric sports car on sale. Just a single variant is being introduced here, featuring a 77kWh battery that provides a range of 443km, capable of recharging from 10-80 per cent in 40 minutes using a 150kW DC charger.

Power is sent to two electric motors (front and rear), combining to develop an impressive 375kW. That makes it the most powerful MG-badged vehicle ever. Acceleration from 0-100km/h is claimed in just 3.2 seconds, with a top speed of 208km/h. Speaking about its arrival, MG’s CCO in Australia, Giles Belcher, said:

“Whether you have a passion for the classic MG Roadsters of years past, love EV motoring today, or admire the beautiful design of the Cyberster, you’ll be excited to get behind the wheel and feel the comfort, power and exhilaration this car delivers.”

As standard the new model comes with an eight-speaker Bose sound system, as well as a comprehensive media interface on the dash with a wrap-around digital gauge cluster, along with the usual connectivity functions, cup holders, and a sports steering wheel.

Although rear-wheel drive is available overseas, the Aussie spec is all-wheel drive only. Prices start from $115,000. It’s on sale and available to order now.
