MG has officially confirmed the Cyberster fully electric roadster sport car will arrive in Australia later this year and has confirmed initial price details. The orders books are now open.
The MG Cyberster, recently spotted in Australia undergoing local testing, is being offered with a 77kWh battery and will come in various colour combinations. MG Australia says it is only looking to introduce the top AWD version – a single-motor RWD version is offered overseas.
Although local specs are yet to be officially confirmed, overseas, the 77kWh battery provides a range of 580km on the CLTC cycle, and supplies energy to two electric motors that combine for a total output of 400kW and 725Nm.
That’s some serious grunt, so you won’t be surprised to hear it can sprint from 0-100km/h in a claimed 3.2 seconds. Needless to say, it is the quickest and most powerful road-going MG in history. The kerb weight is around 1984kg for the AWD version.
MG says local dealers are accepting pre-orders now, with an expected price range of between $100,000-150,000. That means it’ll also be the most expensive MG ever. In a statement, MG Australia sales manager, Brad Chruszcz, said:
“Remember the original MG? Small and affordable, fun-driving roadsters like the 1960s’ and 1970s’ MGB and 1990s’ MG F? Well, decades later, it’s back and thriving with the Cyberster and I’m so excited to get our customers into these cars.
“Dealers are taking orders as we speak with the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) range will fall between $100,000 and $150,000. Exact MSRP figures will be finalised closer to the launch date.”
The MG Cyberster showcases scissor doors like a supercar, and an electric-folding fabric roof which takes 15 seconds to deploy. Customers can choose between a black or deep red fabric roof, with five main exterior colours.
Inside, buyers have a choice of black and red or white and grey for the upholstery and trimmings. The Cybster is also offered with a Bose sound system and an infotainment suite running a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 processor (overseas spec).
More details and final prices will be announced later in the year, with the Australian launch scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2024. MG Australia says it will be “bringing limited numbers” of the Cyberster into the country. So, best to act fast if you’re interested.
