2025 Genesis GV80 now on sale in Australia, adds sporty Coupe variant

Looking to buy a large luxury SUV? Genesis Australia has just announced the facelifted 2025 GV80, which brings in the sporty GV80 Coupe variant for the first time.

Three main iterations are on sale, including the 7-seat, the 6-seat, and the Coupe. All come powered by the same 3.5-litre turbo-petrol V6 engine as the previous model, paired with an eight-speed auto and all-wheel drive system.

Australia misses out on the 309kW e-supercharged version offered overseas, simply due to right-hand drive production and the steering column location getting in the way. Instead, our engine continues to produce 279kW and 530Nm, and offers a claimed 0-100km/h time of 5.7 seconds in the Coupe and 5.6 in the wagon.

Genesis has unfortunately dropped the 2.5-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder from the lineup, as well as the majestic 3.0-litre turbo-diesel inline-six. The local arm says this is due to production of these engines ceasing because of tighter emissions laws imposed overseas.

Aside from the GV80 Coupe, the new model brings in a massive 27-inch multimedia touch-screen that runs across the dash, packing Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, while sending tunes through an impressive 18-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system as standard.

All three come with three-zone climate control with adjustments for the rear passengers, as well as ventilated and heated front and rear seats, and a full Nappa leather upholstery with G-Matrix quilted stitch pattern, and a suede headliner. The Coupe adds real carbon fibre trim for the dash.

To help set the new model apart from the previous model, Genesis has designed some new-look 22-inch alloy wheels, added micro-lens array LED headlights, and installed a new crest grille. The front and rear bumper bars are also revised. Going for the GV80 Coupe obviously adds a swooping roofline and hatch lid.

Boot space is reduced in the Coupe compared with wagon, from 735L in the wagon down to 644L, or with the rear seats folded down, 1097L down to 1033L. It’s not a huge compromise for the sportier body style.

Genesis Motors Australia boss, Justin Douglass, said:

“Since its launch in 2020, GV80 has paved the way for our brand’s growing portfolio of luxury SUVs, establishing itself as our flagship model. With additional standard technology and features, refreshed styling and the progressive GV80 Coupe joining the range, 2025 GV80 continues as an alluring high-performance luxury offering in the marketplace.”

The new model is on sale now, with prices starting from the following (excluding on-road costs):

2025 Genesis GV80 3.5T 7-seat: $130,000
2025 Genesis GV80 3.5T 6-seat: $133,000
2025 Genesis GV80 Coupe 3.5T: $136,000
