Lexus Australia has confirmed the all-new GX, the first GX for Australia, will go on sale on May 21. It’ll be topped by the Overtrail variant, which is a hardcore off-road version fitted with special kit. The Overtrail will join the Luxury and Sports Luxury grades.
All come powered by a 3.4-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine producing 260kW at 4800-5200rpm, and 650Nm between 2000-3600rpm. This is connected up to a 10-speed automatic with full-time four-wheel drive. Overseas, the Overtrail adds a locking rear diff, while others use a Torsen limited-slip diff.
Going for the Overtrail also brings in 33-inch all-terrain tyres mounted on unique 18-inch alloy wheels, a more rugged exterior package with wider wheel arches, two-tone exterior colour, and the Electronic-Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (E-KDSS) with disconnecting sway bar from the LandCruiser 300.
The Overtrail also comes with Multi-Terrain Select driving modes, a Multi-Terrain Monitor camera system for checking vehicle surroundings, Crawl Control, and a larger alternator for the engine so it can better-handle accessories and any aftermarket features. Thereβs also some unique seats inside.
The towing capacity is rated at 3500kg for the Luxury and Overtrail GX, but the Sports Luxury drops down to 3130kg. Either way, these are among the highest ratings for a luxury SUV in this specific class.
This is a Lexus after all so comfort and luxury is a high priority. All variants come with a 14-inch touch-screen system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 10-speaker sound system (at minimum), and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster.
The GX 550 officially goes on sale on May 21, with prices starting from the following (excluding on-roads). It comes in as the third all-new model line from Lexus, following the LM luxury people-mover and LBX compact SUV. Both of these were recently introduced in Australia for the first time.

2024 Lexus GX 550 Overtrail: $122,250
