2024 Lexus GX lineup confirmed for Australia, arrives mid year

Initial details and specs of the 2024 Lexus GX have been confirmed for Australia, ahead of its local arrival in the middle of this year.

The Lexus GX will come in as a luxury version of the next-gen Toyota Prado, offering seven seats, 3500kg towing capacity, and rugged off-road capability, wrapped up with pampering luxury and refinement. This is the first time the GX nameplate is being offered in Australia.

Customers will get to choose from three main variants, spanning from the GX 550 Luxury, GX 550 Overtrail, and flagship GX 550 Sports Luxury. All feature a 3.4-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine producing an impressive 260kW and 650Nm.

This is sent through a 10-speed automatic transmission and into a full-time 4WD system with low range. Going for the Overtrail version adds eKKDSS (Kinetic Dynamic Suspension) with Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS), a rear differential lock, as well as Multi-Terrain Monitor, multi-stage Crawl Control, and a larger alternator to support accessories.

The Overtrail also comes with all-terrain tyres mounted on unique 18-inch alloy wheels, special wheel arch extensions and bumper bars, and various black trimmings. Lexus says the Overtrail will only be available in five-seat configuration, unfortunately.

All variants showcase a 14-inch touch-screen media system offering wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 10-speaker sound system (at minimum), head-up display, wireless phone charger, and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster.

Other practical-minded features include a 12V socket in the front, 220V socket in the back, five USB-C ports, a full-size spare wheel, push-button-folding third-row seating, and an electronic tailgate. Going for the Sports Luxury adds 22-inch wheels (up from 20s), adaptive high-beam, a panoramic sunroof, and a 21-speaker Mark Levinson sound system.

This will be an interesting one for Australia, as the Toyota Prado is a very popular model in Australia so youโ€™d assume its luxury sibling will share some of its success. Lexus Australia chief executive John Pappas said:

“Lexus is dedicated to meeting the diverse needs of our customers, and the GX provides a seven-seat solution for families while offering fantastic turbocharged off-road performance. We are also delighted to offer the unique Overtrail grade for those wanting rugged off-road capability as the number one priority.”

More details, including prices, will be announced closer to its launch โ€œaround mid-2024โ€, Lexus says.
