Lexus Australia has confirmed prices and some specs for the upcoming LBX urban crossover and the all-new (for Australia) GX rugged SUV.
Starting with the LBX, this is essentially the Lexus version of Toyota’s C-HR. It will be offered in three main variant levels, with the FWD Luxury, FWD Sports Luxury, and AWD Sports Luxury. All come powered by a 1.5-litre thee-cylinder hybrid powertrain, generating 100kW.
Sitting underneath the UX small SUV, the LBX comes in as the smallest and most affordable model in the showroom. Speaking about the model, Lexus Australia boss, John Pappas, said:
“The LBX is the first car in its class to combine hybrid efficiency with big-car luxury, making it a small car that is truly premium in every respect. It has all the luxury, craftsmanship, high quality and signature driving experience you will find in any car wearing the Lexus badge – at a remarkably tempting price.”
As for the Lexus GX, this will be a particularly interesting one as it is based on the new Toyota Prado. It could become one of Lexus’s most popular vehicles. It is being launched in three variant lines, including GX 550 Luxury, Overtrail, and Sports Luxury.
Unlike the Prado, the GX in Australia will come powered by a 3.4-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine. Outputs haven’t been confirmed yet but overseas this package develops 260Nm and 650Nm, featuring a 10-speed automatic with full-time four-wheel drive.
All three models will come with an impressive array of drive modes and interior appointments, including a 14-inch touch-screen, 12.3-inch gauge cluster, and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Upper models add a 21-speaker sound system, and 22-inch alloy wheels. Pappas said:
“We are delighted with the response to GX so far. It has genuine appeal in the way it delivers trademark Lexus luxury and craftsmanship with rugged off-road performance suited to tough Australian conditions. The GX in Luxury and Sports Luxury grades also provides customers with the flexibility of a third row of seats for urban family adventures.”
