A new kind of horsepower war has hit hyperdrive, with details of a 3019hp (2220kW) production car from BYD’s Yangwang division emerging today.
Revealed by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the car in question is the 2025 BYD Yangwang U9 Track Edition. It takes the standard hypercar’s output of 960kW and winds it up to 2220kW, making it the most powerful production car in the world. To put that in perspective, that’s 10 VT series 2 SS Commodores or AU3 XR8s.

Four electric motors, each generating 555kW, power one wheel each, with top speed limited to 350km/h. The 2480kg beast also features 325/35 R20 tyres at each corner, a massive swan neck carbon fibre rear spoiler, bodykit and carbon fibre roof panel.
The current car’s 80kWh Blade LFP battery purportedly carries over, with 450km of range. Up to 500kW DC fast charging capability is standard, along with BYD’s DiSus-X active suspension system.

Previously, the standard U9 set a lap time of 7.17.900 at the Nurburgring, with a top speed of 391km/h. Interestingly, this is the same top speed set by the McLaren F1 in 1998 at Ehra-Lessien, which was the world’s fastest at the time until the 2005 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 (408km/h) came along.
Up to now, the most powerful Chinese production car was the 2025 Xiaomi SU7 Ultra, which set a Nurburgring lap time record of 7:04.957 in production trim.
For some point of reference, here are the top 10 most powerful current production cars in the world (as far as we know – there might be something obscure we missed):
