Hyundai previews crazy INSTEROID race-inspired concept

Hyundai has revealed a first glimpse of its new INSTEROID concept car. It’s a bold and aggressive version of the Inster electric vehicle (EV). The one-off design study explores the idea of potential motorsport opportunities for the city car.

The name ‘INSTEROID’ fuses ‘INSTER’ with ‘STEROID’, hinting at the exaggerated, muscular styling that sets this concept apart from its production counterpart. Teaser images showcase aggressive design elements, including massive wheel arches and vents, a large Pikes Peak style rear wing, a pronounced diffuser, and 21-inch wheels – all details that wouldn’t look out of place in a GT3 race or even an LM racing car.

Hyundai’s signature Pixel LED lighting remains a key feature, while the cabin is all stripped out to make way for a comprehensive roll cage and bucket seats. The company describes INSTEROID as a “glitch in the automotive matrix”.

Since its debut in mid-2024, the Inster has gained traction in key markets like Europe and Korea. The INSTEROID builds on this success by exploring how electric cars can be more than just eco-friendly. Hyundai’s design team went all out with the concept, focusing on race car presence and visual impact.

The INSTEROID will be fully unveiled in April 2025, offering a closer look at Hyundai’s vision for the future of electric vehicle capabilities. Could this mean there is an ‘Inster N’ in the works? Fingers crossed.
