Jaguar Type 01 revealed in production form, 1030hp EV

Jaguar has officially lifted the lid on the production-spec Type 01, marking the most radical stylistic and engineering reset in the iconic British marque’s history. Launching into a new era of ultra-luxury electric mobility, the four-door grand tourer replaces the brand’s entire legacy combustion lineup.

The Type 01 is built on a bespoke 850-volt electrical architecture. To achieve the car’s striking, low-slung proportions, Jaguar engineers rejected a traditional ‘skateboard’ battery chassis, which would have increased the vehicle’s height by 200mm. Instead, the high-efficiency battery cells are split between front and rear compartments, allowing occupants to sit deep within the cabin and maintaining a perfect 50:50 weight distribution.

The result is a driving range of 724km on the WLTP cycle (450 miles). The 850-volt system supports 350kW DC fast charging, capable of adding up to 321km of range in 30 minutes.

Power is delivered via a potent tri-motor all-wheel drive system. A single 260kW front motor is tasked with propelling the Type 01 during steady highway cruising to maximise efficiency. However, during spirited driving, two independent 310kW motors mounted on the rear axle engage, providing aggressive torque vectoring capabilities.

Combined, the tri-motor setup unleashes a colossal 758kW (1030PS) and 1365Nm of torque. This rockets the heavy grand tourer from 0-100km/h (0-62mph) in just 3.2 seconds, with a rolling 100-180km/h acceleration time of a staggering 4.0 seconds.

Inside, the Type 01 embraces a minimalist, material-driven aesthetic inspired by travertine stone. The cabin features a virtual-dimming panoramic glass roof, while rear passengers receive an independent 7.0-inch display.

Material choices heavily prioritise sustainability, utilising Kvadrat DuoWeave textiles, UltraFabrics NeoGrain, and recycled textile flooring alongside traditional leather.

Practicality is retained via a power tailgate concealing 450 litres of cargo space, which expands to 1000 litres when the rear seats are folded flat.

Jaguar anticipates the Type 01 will reach its first customers by mid-2027. While UK pricing is expected to start at £120,000, local reports indicate the Type 01 could launch in Australia with an eye-watering price tag hovering around the $300,000 mark.
