Volvo Australia has announced some impressive price cuts for its small SUV range. Specifically, the EX30 and the EX40. It says the cuts are in preparation for the new EX60, suggesting it will come in at an attractive price.
Sometimes it’s hard to decode press releases, but this one seems to suggest it is dropping the prices of the EX30 and EX40 because the EX60 will be surprisingly affordable, perhaps sitting too close to the outgoing EX40 price? As such, the local arm says the EX60 will “change the game” in regards to range, charging, performance, and, crucially, price.
So, what price cuts are we talking here? The entry level EX30 Plus Single Motor drops to $49,990, while the EX30 Ultra Single Motor is cut to $54,990. Meanwhile, the EX30 Cross Country starts from just $62,990 (all excluding on-roads). That’s a saving of up to $11,300.
As for the EX40, prices start from $69,990 for the Ultra Single Motor, and from $74,990 for the Ultra Twin Motor. These drop from $76,990 and $81,990, respectively. Stephen Connor, Volvo Car Australia managing director, said:
“To accommodate the arrival of the game changing EX60 it is paramount that we alter our current game plan. This alignment sets us up perfectly for the introduction of our newest addition. When the vehicle arrives to Australia it will be one of the safest cars on the market and it represents the purest form of the Volvo Cars Safety standard, going above and beyond regulations and ratings required.”
The new EX60 will certainly shake up the segment, with overseas certification pointing to a WLTP range of 810km. It’s built on Volvo’s new SPA3 platform featuring a 112kWh battery capable of DC fast charging at up to 400kW.
In flagship form, the twin motor version produces a colossal 500kW and 790Nm, which is enough to see 0-100km/h claimed in just 3.9 seconds. And then inside boasts a new Google Gemini AI assistance suite running on a big central touch-screen. Unfortunately, there are minimal buttons and physical controls.
More details and prices for the EX60 will be confirmed in the lead up to its local arrival, scheduled for late in 2026. In the meantime, now could be the perfect time to jump into one of Volvo’s smaller SUVs. The price adjustments are now in effect. See below for a recap (excluding on-road costs):
