Renault 5 Turbo 3E specs confirmed, production limited to 1980

Renault has officially revealed the full specs for the 5 Turbo 3E, arriving in 2027. Designed as a modern reinterpretation of the iconic mid-engine hot hatch, this limited-production model blends heritage with cutting-edge technology, and brings supercar-like performance.

Built on a bespoke platform, it features dual in-wheel motors on the rear axle, producing a combined 540hp (400kW) and a staggering 4800Nm of torque. This setup allows the compact hot hatch to sprint from 0-100km/h in under 3.5 seconds, putting it in proper supercar territory.

An 800-volt electrical architecture enables rapid DC fast charging at up to 350kW, allowing a 15-80 per cent recharge in just 15 minutes. The battery, housed under the floor to optimise weight distribution and handling, provides an estimated range of over 400km on the WLTP cycle, with exact figures pending homologation.

Staying true to its rally roots, the Renault 5 Turbo 3E is built for agility, performance, and pure driving engagement. A lightweight carbon-fibre superstructure keeps its weight at approximately 1450kg, which is very light for an EV. The aerodynamic design features muscular wheel arches, an aggressive front splitter, and a prominent rear wing for maximum downforce.

For added driving thrills, a dedicated drift-assist function and a rally-inspired vertical handbrake enhance control in tight scenarios. Multi-Sense drive modes offer four settings – Snow, Regular, Sport, and Race –tailoring the car’s character to different conditions.

Renault is offering extensive customisation options, allowing buyers to personalise their 5 Turbo 3E with a variety of exterior liveries and interior trims. Each unit will be individually numbered, with production capped at 1980 examples as a nod to the launch year of the original 5 Turbo.

Set to hit showrooms in 2027, the Renault 5 Turbo 3E will be available in key global markets, including Europe, the Middle East, Japan, and Australia. Reservations are expected to open in the coming weeks, with demand likely to be high for this exclusive retro machine. Prices are yet to be confirmed.
