Zeekr 009 launches in Australia, quickest/most powerful MPV on sale

Zeekr has launched an interesting new MPV in Australia called the 009, featuring a 450kW fully electric powertrain. It essentially becomes the quickest and most powerful van on sale.

This is a luxurious people mover based on Geely’s SEA1 platform, like the Volvo EM90 van and the Lotus Eletre. It’s described as offering the “ultimate luxury” for a seven- or six-seat van, showcasing a modern exterior design with lots of futuristic trimmings, and an amazing interior.

Two versions are being presented in Australia, including a 7-seat and 6-seat. Both use a 116kWh battery that provides a range of up to 686km, which is impressive in itself. However, the really impressive part is the twin-motor propulsion setup that develops 450kW – the same as the Lotus Eletre S.

Zeekr says 0-100km/h comes up in just 4.5 seconds. According to our books, that makes it the quickest van on the market. By far. The 400V battery takes in up to 205kW of DC power, and can go from 10-80 per cent charge in about 30 minutes.

Taking a look inside, the 2+2+3 seating layout in the 7-seat version presents Nappa leather and Ultrasuede upholstery, Sofaro aviation-style second row seats, heating and massaging for the first and second row, and more than enough USB ports for all passengers and three-zone climate control.

But the star of the interior show is a 15.05-inch main touch-screen. It runs a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, with Zeekr AI assistant and 5G connectivity. There’s also a 35.95-inch head-up display, a 17-inch rear screen entertainment package, and a 30-speaker Yamaha surround sound system (yep, 30 speakers).

Boot space is rated between 574L and 2979L. It’s a big van, stretching 5209mm long, 2024mm wide, and standing 1812mm tall. It also rides on double wishbones at the front and multi-link at the back, with dual-chamber air suspension and electromagnetic dampers.
