Zeekr’s arrival in Australia continues to build momentum, and the new 009 is its most ambitious model yet, boasting 600hp from its all-electric powertrain.
It sits in the luxury people mover segment alongside the Mercedes-Benz EQV and Lexus LM, aiming to combine the space and comfort of a premium van with the technology and refinement of a high-end EV.

2025 Zeekr 009: How much does it cost?
Prices start from $135,900 for the seven-seater version, and from $139,900 for the six-seat setup (excluding on-roads). While that might be expensive, it’s difficult to find an alternative that offers this much luxury and performance. Let alone for the price.

2025 Zeekr 009: Interior & packaging
Step inside the 009 and you’re immediately met with a level of craftsmanship that feels distinctly premium – more akin to a Bentley than a startup EV brand. This test car features the stunning tri-tone decor with Polar White upholstery and Stone Grey trimmings, and Jade Green accents. It is proper Nappa leather too, and beautifully soft, extending across the seats, doors, and dash with no sign of the ‘cheap and shiny’ finishes that still linger in some Chinese newcomers.
The seats themselves are first-class in every sense. Both the first and second rows feature heating, ventilation, and massage, with reclining functions and footrests that turn long trips into spa sessions. The optional six-seat layout goes even further with wider armrests and hidden tray-tables that fold out with a satisfying precision. Even the third row offers legitimate comfort, with reclining backrests and decent legroom and headroom for adults.

It’s not just comfort that impresses, as technology is everywhere. The dual OLED displays deliver superb clarity, backed by a Yamaha 30-speaker 3000W surround sound system that’s easily one of the best in the segment. Look closely on the sliding rear doors and you’ll find flush-mounted digital clocks, and of course more USB ports than passengers, including 100W fast-charge ports.

A 35.95-inch AR head-up display (yes, 35 inches) and dual Snapdragon chips make everything run smooth, but it’s the overall sense of calm that defines the experience. It’s quiet, serene, and every surface feels like it’s been carefully considered.
Storage is also well thought out, with up to 2979 litres of boot space available when all rows are folded. There are storage options in varying sizes in all rows as well, and even an 8.6-litre fridge capable of heating or cooling beverages – perfect for long family road trips or business transfers.

2025 Zeekr 009: Powertrain & handling
Power comes from a 116kWh battery feeding two silicon-carbide electric motors that produce a combined 450kW and 693Nm. Acceleration across 0-100km/h is claimed in just 4.5 seconds, making it the quickest people-mover currently on sale. It’s quite insane, but 600hp seems to match the opulent cabin experience in some way.
Delivery is seamless and immediate, but it’s not like a light switch. It can be calm yet forceful so you don’t bother your passengers getting up to highway speeds. However, there’s also no lag or hesitation from any speed; if you want full power in an instant while driving at 60km/h up a hill, just flex your ankle. It’s gone.

As standard the 009 comes with a comprehensive air suspension package with adjustable ride height. It does a superb job of soaking up rough surfaces while maintaining composure through bends. Despite its considerable size and weight (5.2m long and weighing 2870kg), the 009 feels stable and confident, aided by a low centre of gravity and adaptive damping that continually adjusts to the conditions.
It is surprisingly fun to punt down a windy road, and with immediate torque with AWD, you can lean on the throttle early in bends and it’ll yank the vehicle around with decent precision.
With a full charge the range is officially stamped at 686km (NEDC), which is very impressive for an EV and for a massive one like this. However, the on-board range indicator can be a bit too clever for its own good. It constantly recalculates based on driving conditions, which means the displayed range can fluctuate quite noticeably during a trip – especially on highways.

One minute it looks like you have heaps of range left, and the next it drops down and you start thinking about charging again. The real-world range is very respectable, at 686km (NEDC), but the constant adjustments can make it difficult to gauge how much is truly left in the ‘tank’.
On the open road, the 009 glides along with minimal noise intrusion. Michelin Pilot Sport EV tyres with foam inserts reduce road noise effectively, and the cabin remains impressively hushed even at high speeds. For something that weighs over 2.8 tonnes, it handles itself with grace and refinement.

- Supreme comfort: All major seats come with massage, heating, and ventilation; the 6-seat version is limousine-grade.
- Strong performance: 450kW output and AWD traction give it sports-car-like acceleration.
- Impressive technology: Crisp OLED displays, powerful Yamaha audio, and a polished Google-based infotainment system.
- Excellent practicality: Flexible seating, abundant storage, and respectable EV range.
2025 Zeekr 009: Key considerations before you buy
- Fluctuating range estimates: The adaptive range calculator tends to vary too often, which could cause some uncertainty on longer drives.
- Bold styling: While distinctive, the busy front design won’t be to everyone’s taste.
- No local track record yet: Zeekr is still new in Australia, so long-term ownership experience is an open question.
- Big footprint: At over five metres long, parking and tight streets require attention.
- Unknown/new brand: There is very little reliability/warranty data or history out there, compared with more established brands.

Final word
Yes, it’s a bit ridiculous, and yes it is probably too quick for a people-mover. But you know what, we love it because it is so wild. The interior is proper luxury, with heaps of cool tech, and it actually drives and handles with impressive competence – for a van.
