An example of the new 2025 MG HS has been spotted in Australia, ahead of its local launch next week. The new model will be offered in turbo-petrol and plug-in hybrid form, although specs for Australia are yet to be officially laid out.
This example was spotted in Sydney in a closed car park wearing a fetching sky blue paintjob. Judging by the lack of an ‘EV’ symbol on the number plate, it is not the hybrid model. MG has confirmed it will be offering a 1.5-litre turbo producing 125kW and 275Nm, replacing the outgoing 119kW setup. Acceleration across 0-100km/h takes a claimed 9.4 seconds.
For the plug-in hybrid, it uses a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol as well, paired with an electric motor assist system. Thanks to a 24.7kWh battery, this option offers an electric driving range of 120km, up from 63km in the outgoing model. Acceleration across 0-100km/h takes a claimed 6.8 seconds thanks to a combined output of 154kW (overseas spec).
As we already know, the new model showcases a fresh design inside and out. Exterior changes include a swoopier rear end, carved-out rear haunches, and a more aggressive and pointed nose with thinner headlights. There’s also a much larger front grille.
Taking a look inside, two 12.3-inch digital screens run across the dash on one seamless panel, with only some physical buttons on the fascia and centre console. Some new patterns and trims are also applied to the seats and door cards.
Compared with the outgoing model, the 2025 MG HS has grown in dimensions in some areas, sitting 14mm wider (1890mm overall width), with a 30mm longer wheelbase (now 2750mm), and 26mm longer overall (now 4636mm). The roof height is 30mm lower, however, for a sportier profile.
The official media launch event for the petrol version is happening next week, with the first reviews under embargo until September 4. Stay tuned.
