A substantial price reduction for the Jeep Grand Cherokee range has been announced in Australia as the local arm tries to broaden the appeal of the American large SUV, with reductions of up to $28,000 for the Summit Reserve.
Changes to pricing of both five- and seven-seat models of the WL Jeep Grand Cherokee (MY23) see the entry level Night Eagle drop from $77,950 to $65,450 for the five-seater, and to $69,450 in the case of the seven-seater (down $12,500 and $13,500, respectively).
Overland (pictured) models drop by $20,500 and $21,300 for five- and seven-seat configuration, respectively, now kicking off from $77,950 for the five-seater.
The Summit Reserve model, available in three-row V6 or two-row PHEV guise (4xe), has benefited the most, with the V6 price slashed to $91,490, from $119,450 previously. The 4xe variant remains unchanged and is the flagship variant in terms of price.
According to VFACTS, 254 units of the Jeep Grand Cherokee have been sold so far this year to the end of April 2024, which is down on the 452 which found new homes in the same period in 2023, let alone the much more popular WK2 predecessor, which had the benefit of an available V8 engine – denied for right-hand drive iterations of the latest WL. This represents a 43.8 per cent slide in the ‘SUV large above $80k’ category in Australia.
When we reviewed the Summit Reserve 4xe earlier this year, we enjoyed the smart and spacious interior but we expressed some criticism at the high entry price. It will be interesting to see if this move can reinvigorate sales to their former glory.
It is unclear at this stage if MY24 variants will receive similar pricing, but it seems likely given the extreme lengths Jeep has gone to here. See below for the new prices and changes compared with last year (excluding on-road costs):
