2024 Toyota HiLux update details revealed for Australia, mild-hybrid tech

The ever-popular Toyota HiLux will soon receive a facelift for 2024-2025, bringing in mild-hybrid tech as promised, and revised styling with added tech inside.

As previously confirmed, Toyota is adding 48V mild-hybrid tech to its widely-used 2.8-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine. Although it isn’t set to alter the overall outputs, the smart technology will reduce fuel consumption.

A specific consumption average hasn’t been mentioned, but Toyota says the system helps improve economy by 6-10 per cent. For reference, the current SR5 auto offers an official average of 7.9L/100km.

Not only that, Toyota says the system helps to improve drivability, while reducing noise, vibration and harshness levels. In other words, expect smoother overall operation, and some added weight. It will come standard on the Rogue, SR5 double-cab, and optional for SR 4×4 double-cab models.

Coinciding with the new engine tech, these models also come fitted with Multi-Terrain Select, providing six different drive modes for the driver to optimise performance for various conditions. Speaking about its arrival, Sean Hanley, Toyota Australia’s vice president of sales, said:

“Introducing 48-Volt technology on double-cab HiLux models is an exciting step forward, improving fuel efficiency while still providing performance and capability that the HiLux is known for. Combined with dynamic styling and improved specification, the HiLux range has never looked more appealing.”

Speaking of which, the exterior comes in for a light facelift, introducing a new front grille and bumper bar, new trapezoid-shaped corner sections, and tinted LED headlights for the SR5 and black highlights.

Other updates include a wireless phone charger for the Rogue, GR Sport and SR5, two USB-C ports in the back, while the SR when equipped with the mild-hybrid tech adds dual-zone climate control, smart entry and start, auto power windows, and carpet floor mats.

Toyota Australia says the new model is scheduled to arrive in showrooms during the first quarter of this year. So, in the next few months. Prices will be announced soon.
