2026 Toyota HiLux BEV electric ute price from $74,990 in Australia

Toyota Australia has confirmed specs and prices for the its new HiLux BEV (fully electric), which is being offered in SR and SR5 grades.

This is the first electric HiLux to be officially offered in Australia, and it has been built on the latest ninth-generation HiLux dual-cab, featuring a 59.2kWh battery and two electric motors to create AWD.

At the front, the electric motor produces 82kW and 206Nm, with a rear motor adding 129kW and 269Nm. Toyota says the combined output is 144kW, which is 6kW less than the current 2.8-litre turbo-diesel.

With a full charge Toyota says the range for the pickup models is rated at 315km on the NEDC test, or 245km for the SR cab-chassis. That’s not exactly ideal for a workhorse, especially if it’s going to be carrying stuff in the back.

Speaking of which, the HiLux BEV offers a braked towing capacity of 2000kg, which is obviously a big step down from the 3500kg standard in this vehicle category.

In terms of charging, the electric HiLux can take in up to 150kW in DC power, or 10kW with a three-phase AC plug. Since the battery is pretty small, charging from 10-80 per cent can be achieved in just 30 minutes.

Toyota says it has been testing the new model extensively in Australia, including in very harsh conditions to make sure it lives up to the nameplate’s reputation. Testing included spending months on mine sites with temps of almost 50°C.

As standard, the HiLux BEV comes with dual 12.3-inch screens inside, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, digital radio, and a four-speaker sound system.

The SR5 adds LED headlights and taillights, privacy glass, and painted bonnet trim and lower front grille. Speaking about the new model, Toyota Australia’s vice president for sales, marketing and franchise, John Pappas, said:

“This is an exciting time for Toyota; bringing in an electric version of the much-loved HiLux pick-up finally gives businesses and fleets the option of low-emission motoring mixed with Toyota’s extensive parts and servicing network.”

The new model goes on sale in May from the following prices (excluding on-road costs):

2026 Toyota HiLux BEV SR double cab-chassis: $74,990
2026 Toyota HiLux BEV SR double cab pickup: $76,490
2026 Toyota HiLux BEV SR5 double cab pickup: $82,990
