2027 Kia Seltos now on sale in Australia; turbo dropped, hybrid added

Kia Australia has officially launched the next-generation Seltos, overhauling its popular small SUV with an electrified powertrain lineup, a larger physical footprint, and a sophisticated electric all-wheel drive system.

Underpinning the range is Kia’s K3 platform, which brings a significant dimensional stretch over the previous model. The vehicle grows 45mm in length (4430mm) and 60mm in the wheelbase (2,690mm), yielding increased rear legroom and a segment-leading 483L boot capacity.

The chassis has also been subjected to Kia Australia’s renowned local ride and handling program, receiving a bespoke suspension and steering calibration engineered specifically for domestic road conditions.

A major engineering shift lies under the bonnet. Every Seltos variant is now powered by a 1.6-litre hybrid-electric (HEV) powertrain mated to a six-speed dual-clutch transmission – the 1.6L turbo is gone. Front-wheel drive models – encompassing the S, Sport, Sport+, and GT-Line grades – produce a combined system output of 112kW and 265Nm, with fuel consumption rated as low as 5.1L/100km on the entry-level S trim.

Serving as the flagship is the GT-Line AWD, which introduces an EV-inspired e-AWD system. Dispensing with a traditional mechanical driveshaft, this configuration utilises a dedicated rear electric motor to provide direct power to the rear axle when required. The dual-motor setup bumps combined output to 126kW (down from 146kW in the old turbo GT-Line), while returning 5.8L/100km on the WLTP cycle.

Inside, the cabin architecture adopts a column-mounted shift-by-wire selector to free up console space, alongside a sweeping panoramic display integrating dual 12.3-inch screens for instrumentation and infotainment. Standard equipment includes wireless smartphone mirroring, over-the-air update capability, and an active In-Cabin Safety Camera.

The new model is on sale around Australia now, with prices starting from the following (excluding on-road costs). Kia is offering drive-away (D-A) pricing as well:
