2027 Genesis GV60 review – Australian launch

Genesis has refreshed GV60 for 2027 (MY27), trimming the range down to just the Advanced variant, in effect reducing the opening price to its lowest-ever figure. The update also builds on an already polished package with more technology, greater refinement, and a longer driving range.

Visually, the updates are subtle. Revised front-end styling, body-coloured exterior trim and new lighting signatures sharpen the GV60’s appearance without losing the brand’s distinctive identity. Aerodynamics are also improved in the process, with the drag coefficient dropping from 0.29 to 0.28.

So it seems like a substantial update but, like the previous model, is there enough appeal here to pull buyers away from the ever-building field of competitors?

2027 Genesis GV60: How much does it cost?

For 2027, there’s just one rear-wheel drive model, along with the high-performance Magma AWD. Priced from $88,300 (excluding on-road costs), the GV60 Advanced undercuts many traditional European luxury EVs while slipping beneath important Luxury Car Tax and Fringe Benefits Tax thresholds.

That makes it an attractive proposition for novated lease customers in particular, although buyers will inevitably compare it against competitive rivals from both established and emerging brands. And being electric means it has to work harder to justify the price gap over some of those emerging rivals, as you’re no longer paying for a sophisticated and exclusive petrol or diesel engine; most electric systems are fairly universal.

2027 Genesis GV60: Interior & packaging

The GV60 continues to impress with one of the most inviting cabins in the segment. From the driving position, which feels natural and slightly hunkered down, to the clear outward visibility, and ample passenger space in both rows considering the vehicle’s smallish footprint, it has the makings of the ideal daily driver.

Dominating the dashboard is the new 27-inch panoramic display running the latest Integrated Cockpit (ccIC) system, merging the instrument cluster and infotainment system into one seamless screen. Graphics are exceptionally crisp, response times are quick, and the presentation feels every bit worthy of a premium badge.

Passengers are offered the usual Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, digital radio, a comprehensive surround-view camera, as well as a premium sound system. But what really helps the cabin stand out is the usability and attention to detail. For example, there’s a precision-made volume barrel embedded into the console, so you don’t have to swipe around on the screen.

The signature Crystal Sphere gear selector remains one of the cabin’s more memorable design elements too, adding a sense of occasion every time you start the vehicle; when the vehicle is off, it’s an exotic crystal ball, and then when you fire it up the ball spins and exposes its rotary gear selector function. Yes, it is a gimmick, but one that stands out and, importantly does not causes compromises in other areas.

Not everything is perfect, however. While the overall design and fit-and-finish are outstanding, putting many of the heavy-hitting German brands to shame, some of the recycled-plastic-based interior materials don’t quite deliver the tactile quality expected at this price point. Sustainability is an important goal, but a handful of surfaces feel less premium than buyers may anticipate from a luxury brand.

Boot space is measured at 432L and expands to 1460L with the rear seats folded flat. While not strictly the largest boot in its class, it should easily fulfil the expectations of most buyers. It’ll support a weekend away, a big shopping expedition, the school and after-school-sport runs with room to spare, and even the odd IKEA trip.

2027 Genesis GV60: Powertrain & handling

Power comes from a single rear-mounted electric motor paired with a new 84kWh battery, providing a claimed driving range of up to 561km (WLTP). Fast charging remains a highlight, with the 800V electrical architecture capable of accepting ultra-rapid 350kW charging, although it typically takes in a maximum of 265kW.

On the road, the GV60 delivers exactly what most luxury EV buyers are looking for. It’s exceptionally smooth, quiet and refined, with suspension updates further improving ride comfort over rough Australian roads. Additional sound insulation also contributes to a serene cabin, reinforcing the vehicle’s premium credentials.

Genesis has also fine-tuned the steering and regenerative braking systems, resulting in a driving experience that feels cohesive and confidence inspiring, without becoming too hard-edged. Rather than chasing outright sportiness, the GV60 Advanced prioritises effortless progress.

We didn’t time 0-100km/h during this launch event, but the official claim of 7.8 seconds feels about right. And again, it’s not chasing wow-factor numbers. Acceleration offered here is perfectly adequate, whether it’s zipping through pesky traffic or overtaking at speed on the highway, it’s fine.

However, at this price point, if you are looking for that g-force excitement that EVs have become renowned for, there are several competitors offering stronger straight-line performance for similar – or even less – money. And that could be a problem for Genesis in securing showroom appeal. But then, there’s always the mighty Magma variant for that.

The move to rear-wheel drive is another point worth considering. Grip remains solid and secure in normal driving, but the previous all-wheel drive model delivered an added layer of confidence in poor weather while reinforcing the SUV’s all-condition capability. Its absence won’t go unnoticed for some.

2027 Genesis GV60: First impressions

Yes, there are more affordable EVs in this space that offer more range or more acceleration, or both. But, you’re not just paying for features and gimmicks, or big numbers. Genesis remains the benchmark for customer ownership experience, with complimentary scheduled servicing, concierge and loan vehicles, and a comprehensive after-sales program that few premium manufacturers can match.

And, interestingly, we ran some checks and found Genesis brand vehicles often carry decent resale value when compared with the traditional European rivals.
