Chery Australia has released more technical details for its upcoming Stockman ute, confirming a 350kW diesel plug-in hybrid powertrain, triple differential locks and almost 3.5 tonnes of towing capacity.
Power comes from a 2.5-litre turbo-diesel Super Hybrid system, incorporating a 34kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery. Combined outputs are rated at 350kW and 800Nm, with all-wheel drive standard.
The plug-in hybrid system also provides up to 96km of electric driving range on the WLTP cycle, while an 80-litre diesel tank should give it considerably more flexibility for longer trips.

Chery has now confirmed a 3495kg braked towing capacity, just 5kg shy of the common 3500kg benchmark for dual-cab utes. Unbraked towing capacity is rated at 750kg.
Off-road equipment is also fairly comprehensive, with front, centre and rear differential locks, more than 247mm of ground clearance and all-terrain tyres.
Underneath, the Stockman uses double-wishbone front suspension and a traditional leaf-spring arrangement at the rear, suggesting Chery is positioning it as a proper workhorse rather than focusing solely on passenger-car-like ride comfort. The upcoming petrol model might have coil springs at the back, although it is yet to be confirmed.

At 5450mm long, 2010mm wide and 1890mm tall, the Stockman is a sizeable ute. Its 3250mm wheelbase is accompanied by a cargo tub measuring 1560mm long, 1560mm wide and 500mm deep.
Inside is a 10.25-inch digital instrument display and 15.6-inch infotainment touch-screen, along with a 14-speaker audio system. Chery also says a broad suite of driver assistance systems will be offered, although detailed Australian equipment levels and trim grades are yet to be outlined.
Pricing is also still under wraps. The Chery Stockman will begin Australian customer deliveries on February 1, 2027.
