Mitsubishi has released more details of the next-generation, 2027 Pajero ahead of its global debut later this year, confirming the large SUV will utilise a ladder-frame chassis and live axle rear suspension, and feature the brand’s Super-All Wheel Control (S-AWC) system.
According to the company, the SUV has been engineered to balance genuine off-road capability with improved on-road refinement. At the heart of the package is a ladder-frame platform, set to be borrowed from the latest Triton, with a live axle rear end.
A teaser image was released to show the underbody, with evidence of a trailing arm bracket and tubes for the axles. Paired with a revised suspension system designed to improve wheel control over rough terrain while also reducing body movement and vibrations during everyday driving, the new model is expected to be the most dynamic generation yet.

However, the previous generation used a monocoque platform with independent front and rear suspension, so, in some ways, the new model has gone backwards in terms of chassis technology. In saying that, a ladder-frame with a live axle rear is likely to go down well with hardcore 4×4 enthusiasts. This layout is also known to be more heavy-duty and better suited to towing and carrying heavy loads.
The new Pajero will feature the latest version of Mitsubishi’s Super-All Wheel Control system, which integrates the vehicle’s four-wheel drive and stability systems to optimise traction and handling across a variety of road and weather conditions. It is set to incorporate a centre differential to allow for on-road four-wheel drive capability as well.
More details will be rolled out in the coming weeks, with the official global reveal set to take place in September.
