BMW iX3 40 entry variant confirmed for Australia, 635km range

BMW is expanding its iX3 offering in Australia by introducing a new entry grade iX3 40. It’s scheduled to arrive locally in the last quarter of this year.

The iX3 40 sits below the existing ’50’ variant, featuring an 82.6kWh battery, based on the Neue Klasse platform. Boasting 22kW AC charging capability as an option, this could be a tempting package for those with three-phase power at home/office. Although, some non-premium EVs are now offering 22kW as standard, such as the Toyota bZ4X/Subaru Solterra.

With DC fast-charging, the iX3 40 supports up to 300kW of charging power, which translates to 10-80 per cent charge in around 21 minutes. It uses a 500V architecture, offering a WLTP range of 635km.

In terms of performance, the iX3 40 is rear-wheel drive with a single electric motor at the rear axle, developing 235kW and 500Nm. That’s enough to push the SUV from 0-100km/h in 5.9 seconds, onto a top speed of 200km/h.

BMW says standard features and specification are the same as the 50 variant to ensure a consistent spread across the board. Highlights include the BMW Panoramic iDrive system, running operating system X, with A-pillar to A-pillar display just below the windscreen.

It also comes with the BMW Iconic Glow exterior package, a Harman Kardon sound system, the M Sport package with blue M Sport brakes, panoramic glass roof, heated front seats and steering wheel, and a wireless phone charger.

The BMW iX3 40 goes on sale priced from $89,900 (excluding on-road costs), which means it falls under the LCT threshold. Deliveries are set to commence in the last three months of 2026.
