BMW unveils next-gen OS X at 2025 CES, with Panoramic Vision

BMW has unveiled its latest infotainment concept, the new Panoramic Vision, alongside its Operating System X, at the 2025 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.

Set to debut in production vehicles from late 2025, this system aims to redefine in-car interaction with a focus on driver-centric functionality and personalisation. That would be a welcomed shift away from the passenger-centric systems that seem to be the craze at the moment.

BMW Panoramic Vision transforms the windshield into an expansive, driver-focused display. Spanning from A-pillar to A-pillar, projecting essential driving data directly into the driver’s line of sight, while offering customisable content for passengers. Complementing this is the optional 3D Head-Up Display, which integrates navigation and driving assistance information for a more futuristic experience.

BMW Operating System X, the software backbone of this new tech, brings enhanced versatility and long-term upgrade potential. Developed in-house using an Android-based architecture, it supports intuitive features like touch and voice controls, dynamic widgets, and a redesigned multifunction steering wheel with illuminated buttons. The system is designed to reduce the occurrence of drivers taking their hands off the wheel.

Personalisation takes centre stage with My Modes, allowing drivers to customise settings, ambient lighting, and even background visuals on the central display. The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, now enhanced with large language models, promises natural assistance tailored to individual preferences.

BMW also announced the HypersonX sound experience. This is a suite of 43 sounds that adapt to driving modes and conditions.

The first integration is planned for the Neue Klasse models later this year. One of the first Neue Klasse models to arrive will be the next iX3, following an all-new X model (prototype below) which is set to go into production late in 2025. The next-gen G50 3 Series will also jump to the new architecture.
