The highly anticipated second-generation of the XPeng P7 super sedan has racked up more than 10,000 pre-orders overseas within 6 minutes and 37 seconds of the books opening. While impressive, this doesn’t quite match Xiaomi’s YU7 electric SUV, which garnered 289,000 pre-orders within the first hour.
XPeng’s first-generation P7 has been available since 2020, with a handsome soap-bar design in the mould of Tesla Model S and Lucid Air. A bright, lairy green ‘Wing Edition’ featured McLaren-esque scissor doors. The good news is that awe-inspiring feature appears to have carried over for 2026.

For the second iteration, a more rectilinear and wedgy shape, featuring what is called ‘Xmart Face’ design. The fastback roofline is similar to the Lightyear One, but it is a very fresh and contemporary sedan overall.
Drag coefficient has been reduced to 0.201, with eye-catching new wheel designs and a downward tapering roofline.
Powering the car’s ADAS systems and software infrastructure are ‘Turing’ AI chips, as well as Snapdragon’s 8295P for the cabin’s computational needs.

Cabin presentation looks pretty special, with an 87-inch panoramic augmented reality head-up display (AR-HUD), the ability for the 15.6-inch screen to pivot 25 degrees left or right, and gesture commands.
The car offers several powertrain variants, from a 270kW rear single motor version with a 74.9kWh LFP battery, up to an AWD twin-motor version with 437kW, a 92.2kWh NMV battery and a CLTC range of 750km.
Weighing 2090kg, with dimensions of 5017mm long, 1970mm wide, and 1427mm tall, we’d love to see the P7 offered in Australia. At present, XPeng only offers the G6 and G9 SUVs. It is, apparently, under consideration.
