I know, I know. I’ve been thinking the same thing. Mazda doesn’t offer enough SUVs. So, to fix this, it is unveiling the third-generation 2026 CX-5 next week. Phew.
Mazda currently offers arguably the most convoluted SUV lineups on the market, with the CX-3, CX-30, CX-5, CX-60, CX-70, CX-80, and CX-90. You might think one or two might drop off soon? Nope. And the CX-5 isn’t going anywhere.
It is one of Mazda’s best-selling models of the last decade, so it does make business sense to continue it on and even bring out a new generation model to keep it fresh. We only have these teaser images to go from in terms of knowing what it will look like.
Turning up the exposure, it does appear to carry over a similar design theme as the current model, and in fact, the same theme as pretty much all of those aforementioned SUV models. Just to make sure things remain confusing.
Mazda has confirmed this new model will offer a “more spacious, uncluttered cabin” compared with the current model. The company also describes it as offering a “sharper design” while evolving the CX-5’s character.
Other things mentioned; improved comfort and everyday usability, while maintaining its “joy of driving” dynamics. It will be offered with hybrid powertrain tech, including a full hybrid and mild-hybrid. However, market region availability is likely to differ.
All of the details are set to be announced at the unveiling, scheduled for July 10. Market entry in Australia is expected by the first quarter of 2026.
