Video: Ford AU series II Falcon gets SOHC turbo conversion

YouTube channel MotoringBox’s Sean McKellar has carved out a niche creating content that makes Falcon tragics – and, more broadly, Australian motoring tragics – froth, with unique, polished and innovative ideas and content.

From a DIY Kleenex tissue box replacement for the BA Falcon to the rare AU Falcon office table (possibly the most sought-after factory accessory ever), we reckon MotoringBox has outdone itself with the latest creation; a factory-looking turbocharged AU series II Ford Fairmont Ghia.

The SOHC Intech is often overshadowed by the mighty Barra, but some punters actually prefer it for its mechanical simplicity. This example features a Pulsar turbocharger – similar in size to the BA’s Garret unit – masterfully integrated with the BA’s factory crossover pipes to look as though it was meant to be engineered that way.

Keeping the stock broadband manifold and VCT phaser, it’s all controlled by a Haltech ECU. There are still some teething issues to sort as per the video, but the wastegate sound on lift-off is very intoxicating indeed. It looks plenty rapid but we hope to see it on a dyno soon.
