2025 BMW X3 30e xDrive on sale in Australia, price from $102,500

BMW Australia will broaden its electrified lineup in 2025 with the addition of the X3 30e xDrive plug-in hybrid. This new variant joins the X3 20 xDrive and M50 xDrive, marking it as the third member of the new X3 lineup and the fifth plug-in hybrid in BMW Australia’s portfolio.

Alongside its arrival, BMW Australia will continue to offer the fully electric iX3 in M Sport and M Sport Pro grades.

The X3 30e xDrive brings a blend of performance and efficiency, combining a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine with an electric motor, delivering a total output of 220kW and 450Nm. It offers an electric-only range of up to 91km, which is more than 50 per cent over the predecessor. The new battery is rechargeable in just over two hours and is compatible with AC single- and three-phase power (11kW).

The latest generation eDrive technology enables the X3 30e xDrive to switch seamlessly between modes, with a proactive energy management system designed to maximise efficiency. Hybrid mode, for example, engages the petrol engine before freeway driving to enhance acceleration and to recharge the battery. In Electric mode the combustion engine disconnects entirely, allowing the vehicle to reach speeds of up to 140km/h on electric power alone.

According to the official tests, the combined cycle consumption rate is 1.6L/100km, and the average emissions output is just 38g/km. It is one of the most efficient powertrains in its class, and meets the new federal CO2 emission targets set by Australia’s New Vehicle Efficiency Standard (NVES) for 2025. It’s not slow, either, covering the 0-100km/h sprint in a claimed 6.2 seconds.

Inside, the X3 30e xDrive features the new interior made with sustainable materials, and BMW’s latest Operating System 9 with a 14.9-inch media screen and 12.3-inch instrument display. Digital radio, head-up display, three-zone climate control, and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay come as standard in Australia.
