Following its international reveal earlier this year, BMW Australia has now confirmed the 2025 X3 40d will go on sale locally later this year.
The new 40d replaces the old 30d, featuring a 48V mild-hybrid version of the long-running 3.0-litre turbo-diesel inline-six engine. It now produces an impressive 210kW (detuned from 223kW in overseas spec) and 670Nm, up from 190kW and 620Nm in the old 30d.
Power is sent through an eight-speed automatic as before, and into an xDrive all-wheel drive system. Acceleration across 0-100km/h takes a claimed 5.4 seconds (down from 5.9s), but we suspect it will be slightly quicker than that in the real world given we’ve achieved similar times in the outgoing model.
The updated engine does feature mild-hybrid technology this time, helping to reduce emissions and consumption, however, it does require Adblue unlike the 30d predecessor. Fuel consumption figures are yet to be finalised for Australia but overseas the 223kW version is rated at 6.7L/100km.
Sitting near the top of the range, just under the M50, the new 40d comes with the Comfort Package as standard, which adds heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats and steering wheel, and manual sun blinds for the rear doors. There’s also a panoramic roof as standard.
On the outgoing, the M Sport package comes as standard, with adaptive suspension, 20-inch M light alloy wheels, M Sport brakes painted blue, and the Iconic Glow illuminated front grille.
Inside, it gets the latest dual-screen dash with a 14.9-inch media interface and 12.3-inch gauge cluster, all on a curved panel running BMW OS 9. Three-zone climate control is standard.
The new model is scheduled to arrive by the third quarter of this year, with prices starting from $108,900 (excluding on-roads).
