Mazda is planning to unveil the new BT-50 for 2025 next week, and it’s expected to showcase a fresh design inside and out, with big improvements to the infotainment system.
The company has just sent out this teaser image to give us a preview, and we’ve turned up the brightness to try and reveal some of the details. It looks like it will carry over a similar pair of headlights and curvaceous bonnet and front guards as the current BT-50.
No firm details have been confirmed, but our guess is the 2025 BT-50 will incorporate the latest 9.0-inch touch-screen from the recently-updated Isuzu D-Max, which it borrows its platform and powertrain from. In that we saw the introduction of a volume knob and much nicer main menu page, with more colour.
Mazda says the new model will indeed feature “significant enhancements to the Human Machine Interface (HMI)” which includes the touch-screen. The company says safety and driver assistance systems are also updated, with “additional functionality” for the popular ute.
No changes are expected for the 3.0-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine. The ‘4JJ’ Isuzu unit produces 140kW and 450Nm, which is starting to fall behind some of the rivals in terms of output. However, performance and economy remain decent in comparison to some.
The BT-50 is Mazda’s third best-selling model in Australia. According to VFACTS figures, the local arm has delivered 11,614 BT-50s (4×2 and 4×4 combined) so far this year (through September). It sits behind the CX-5 (17,677) and CX-3 (13,802).
Specific variant details and the lineup structure for the 2025 model is yet to be confirmed, but we’ll know more this time next week. The global reveal is penned in for October 18, at 11am AEDT.
