2024 Isuzu D-Max facelift announced for Australia, X-Rider added

The facelifted Isuzu D-Max for 2024 will go on sale in Australia on May 1, bringing in some new technology and improved in-car entertainment, revised styling, and some changes to the trim lines and model configurations.

Firstly, there’s a new X-Rider variant. It becomes a permanent part of the range, unlike previous limited edition models of similar formula. It’s based on the LS-M variant and it comes with fashionable black or darkened highlights, with a hard-wearing interior including a vinyl floor.

Isuzu has made some suspension changes to the LS-M for 2024, so it now includes a softer and more compliant rear end, the company says. It uses the standard-duty three-leaf setup. Isuzu says this change was driven by customer feedback, with customers asking for better comfort and handling when unladed. The X-Rider gets this tune as well.

As for the styling, there’s a new front bumper bar and corner clusters, a higher bonnet with more defined edges and full-length bonnet lines, with new taillights at the back. The X-Terrain gets darkened highlights including wheel arch mouldings, front bumper details and a thick sports bar in the back.

The interior comes in for some pretty big changes. For example, the 9.0-inch touch-screen (where fitted) now includes a volume and tuning knob separate from the screen, and there’s completely new menus and graphics including a vehicle settings page that allows you to configure the driving assistance technologies much easier. The 9.0-inch setup is standard on the LS-U and above, but the SX and LS-M get a new 8.0-inch system with similar functionality and changes.

There’s also a 7.0-inch instrument cluster display with nicer graphics and menu flow, and more functionality built in such as live tyre pressure monitoring readouts. However, this screen comes only on the LS-U and above, and it doesn’t fill the cluster completely – analogue dials remain. A 4.2-inch display is used on the LS-M.

No changes are made under the bonnet for the 2024 model, but loyal buyers will probably appreciate that. The 3.0-litre ‘4JJ’ turbo-diesel four-cylinder continues to produce 140kW and 450Nm, hooked up to a six-speed manual or automatic (depending on the variant).

Isuzu is adding a new Rough Terrain Mode to improve off-road performance, and there’s a heap of new safety technologies such as a 3D stereo forward-facing camera system, intelligent adaptive cruiser control, rear cross-traffic alert and braking, updated lane-keep assist with smoother steering intervention, and a rear-view camera as standard on all models and body styles.

The new model goes on sale on May 1, with prices starting from the following (excluding on-road costs). Stay tuned for our review and video on May 1, at 6am (media embargo).
