The Series II Rolls-Royce Cullinan has made its debut in Australia, bringing all new levels of luxury and majestic superiority to the SUV market. It’s on sale now priced from $777,000.
Rolls-Royce unveiled the new model to Australian media last week, giving us a first-look preview of the extravagant new model. It builds on the success of the original Cullinan which debuted in 2018 as Roll-Royce’s first SUV.
For the Series II model, Rolls-Royce has concentrated on updating the interior to offer more levels of customisation, as well as boosting technology significantly. For example, the new model includes internet connectivity with Wi-Fi hotspot technology, while sounds are played through a bespoke 18-speaker sound system.
The audio package includes a 1400W amplifier and, for the first time, any Bluetooth headphones can be paired to the rear-seat multimedia suite. Although there is a touch-screen and all of that, it’s the craftsmanship and attention to detail that makes this interior special.
In front of the passenger on the dash is an illuminated panel which can be personalised to the owner’s taste. In this example the panel features a cityscape graphic made with 7000 laser-etched dots, which are applied to the back of the toughened glass panel. With light at the back, each of these dots is angled slightly differently to create a fascinating 3D effect.
According to Rolls-Royce data, the average age of its buyers has dropped in recent years, from 56 in 2010 to 43 today. This was partly achieved through the brand’s recent revamp, and likely thanks to an increase in in-car technology applied to its vehicles. Data also shows that Cullinan owners like to drive their vehicle, with less than 10 per cent opting to be chauffeur-driven.
Speaking about its arrival in Australia, Irene Nikkein, regional director Asia-Pacific, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, said:
“We are proud to debut Rolls-Royce Cullinan Series II at Effortless Discoveries, an exquisite journey into the world of Bespoke. Australia is among the top five markets within Asia Pacific for Cullinan. We are seeing here in Australia as well as globally that Cullinan is attracting a younger and more diverse group of clients to the marque.”
As for the powertrain? Unlike many rivals, the Cullinan continues with brute combustion-engine capacity, with a BMW-based 6.75-litre twin-turbo V12 producing 420kW and 850Nm, capable of propelling the regal beast to a limited top speed of 250km/h.
Going for the Black Badge Cullinan sees output grow to 441kW and 900Nm, with the same top speed. This variant showcases unique trimmings, such as black exterior highlights for a more sinister theme, including the iconic Spirit of Ecstasy figurine, with carbon fibre interior elements.
The Rolls-Royce Cullinan Series II is on sale in Australia now priced from $777,000, and from $895,000 for the Black Badge variant (excluding on-road costs). First deliveries are scheduled to commence in the fourth quarter of 2024.
