Zeekr, an electric vehicle brand under Geely Holding based in China, has debuted its Zeekr X in Australia at a preview event in Sydney. The Zeekr X marks the brand’s first foray into the local market, with pre-orders opening in September, 2024.
Built on Geely’s Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA), just like the Volvo EX30 and Smart #1 and #3, the Zeekr X is a small fully electric SUV that combines cutting-edge technology with a unique and modern design.
Two main versions are being introduced, including a rear-wheel drive single motor option producing 200kW and sprinting from 0-100km/h in 5.6 seconds, and a dual-motor AWD version developing 315kW that clocks the sprint in just 3.8 seconds. These figures are similar to the Volvo EX30, except the Swede does 0-100km/h in 5.3 and 3.6 seconds, respectively.
The Zeekr is powered by a 66kWh lithium-ion battery, offering up to 540km of range (NEDC – ADR 81/02) in the single-motor rear-wheel-drive variant. Going for the AWD model sees range dip to 470km. The battery supports 150kW DC fast charging, capable of taking the battery from 10 to 80 per cent charge in under 30 minutes.
The interior of the Zeekr X promises a high-tech experience with its 5G-enabled digital cockpit, powered by a Qualcomm 8155 chip. The massive 14.6-inch ‘floating’ infotainment system includes Zeekr’s voice command, allowing drivers to control various functions through natural voice prompts. The system also supports over-the-air updates.
Unique features like Theatre Mode and Pet Mode cater to lifestyle needs, offering comfort and peace of mind. Theatre Mode adjusts the seats for an optimal music experience, while Pet Mode maintains a safe cabin temperature when pets are left inside. Additionally, Sentry Mode enhances security by recording any suspicious activity around the parked vehicle, with footage accessible only to the driver.
Zeekr’s managing director in Australia, Connal Yan, spoke about the arrival in a statement, saying:
“Zeekr’s expansion into the Australian market brings our innovative and cutting-edge electric vehicles to a new audience, offering a unique driving experience that blends style, performance, and sustainability.”
The new model officially lands in showrooms from October. Although final prices are yet to be confirmed, during the presentation the company said the RWD model will start from ‘below $60,000’ and the AWD version will kick off from ‘below $70,000’.
That means it will slightly undercut the Volvo EX30 by a couple of thousand dollars, and just undercut the Smart #3 but about the same price as the Smart #1.
