In the hunt for the best 7-seat SUV? Hyundai Australia might have the answer for you; the 2024 Santa Fe (MY2025). Prices and specs for the local market have just been announced, and the order books are opening this week.
Three main variants are launching in Australia, from the standard, Elite, to the top Calligraphy. All three are available with either a 2.5-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder or a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol hybrid. However, the 2.5T-GDi, as it’s known, won’t be available until the fourth quarter of this year.
So for now, the 1.6 turbo hybrid pairs a 44.2kW electric motor with the turbo engine, combining to generate a decent 172kW and 367Nm. This is sent through a six-speed automatic transmission. It can be had with either front-wheel drive (entry model only) or AWD.
As for the 2.5T-GDi, it produces 206kW and 422Nm, and it will essentially replace the outgoing 3.5-litre naturally aspirated V6 petrol. Power is up by 6kW but torque is increased by an impressive 91Nm in comparison.
The new model takes on an unmissable new design direction, with a taller and boxier theme than the predecessor, with some rugged characteristics. It stands 45mm longer and 60mm taller than the outgoing model, and the wheelbase stretches 50mm further. But it uses the same 1900mm width.
All models come with twin 12.3-inch digital screens on the dash, presented on a curved panel, and a 6.6-inch touch-screen for the dual-zone climate control. There’s also a UV-C sterilisation tray above the glove box which, using ultraviolet light, can kill 99.9 per cent of bacteria found on things such as phones and wallets.
Elite and Calligraphy variants also add a premium 12-speaker Bose sound system, ventilated seats, a heated steering wheel, and ambient mood lighting with customisable settings and 64 colours to select from.
Other innovative and practical measures applied to the MY25 Santa Fe include dual wireless phone charging pads on the centre console, a ‘C-pillar assist’ grab handle for the Calligraphy to make it easier to reach roof racks, as well as a digital centre mirror for the top model.
The new model is on sale now from the following prices (excluding on-road costs). Prices for the 2.5T are yet to be confirmed. Driving Enthusiast will be at the official media launch event next week, with reviews embargoed until June 7. Stay tuned.
