Lamborghini has unveiled its first-ever plug-in hybrid car, with the Urus SE. It makes its public debut at the Auto China Beijing 2024 show this week.
As suspected, Lamborghini has gone with the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 already featured in the Urus, paired with an electric motor assist system. The electric motor setup develops 141kW and 483Nm alone, while the V8 belts out 456kW, resulting in a combined effort of 588kW (800PS) and 950Nm.
It is the most powerful Urus ever, and the quickest with a 0-100km/h claim of just 3.4 seconds. The electric motor feeds from a 25.9kWh battery that provides an electric range of over 60km. Despite the added weight of the electrical stuff, the Urus SE offers a better power-to-weight ratio than even the Urus S; 3.13:1PS compared with 3.5kg:1PS.
With a 0-200km/h time of just 11.2 seconds and a top speed of 312km/h, Lamborghini says the SE is the fastest production SUV in its segment.
To help the SE stand out among the regular models, the SE showcases a unique aero package for the exterior, with a new ‘floating’ bonnet theme inspired by the Revuelto, and a new front bumper bar and grille section. At the back, the hatch lid has been totally redesigned, with Gallardo-inspired seamlessness, Y-shaped taillights, and a new diffuser underneath.
Taking a look inside, Lamborghini has installed a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and a new 12.3-inch multi-media screen. Both feature updated graphics and expanded functionality, also inspired by the system in the Revuelto. Speaking about the new model, Lamborghini product line director for Urus and Lanzador, said:
“The Urus SE is our Super SUV with two hearts: one thermal and linked to our roots, the other electric and futuristic. Beating in unison they offer a new interpretation of the unmistakeable Lamborghini personality, but taken to a new level.”
Drivers have a selection of driving modes to play around with, including Strada, Sport, Corsa, and Neve, and a Recharge mode which focuses on bringing the battery up to 80 per cent. With adjustable air springs, the suspension travel can also alter between 15mm and 75mm, depending on the drive mode.
Customers will have the opportunity to personalise the SUV, of course, with almost endless possibilities through Lamborghini’s Ad Personam division. That includes wheel sizes from 21 to 23 inches.
The new model is set to go on sale later this year. Australian details are yet to be confirmed.
