Hyundai has announced the 2025 IONIQ 5 lineup, adding upgrades to the battery to increase range, enhancing in-car tech and convenience, and bringing in a sporty N Line trim package for the first time.
The MY2025 IONIQ gets the 84kWh battery, similar to what you’ll see in the high-performance IONIQ 5 N. This helps to increase the range by some level. Unfortunately, Hyundai hasn’t mentioned any specific figures in terms of range.
Also helping with efficiency, the update introduces various aerodynamic revisions for the exterior, including new-look aero-style wheels as well as an extended rear spoiler. The spoiler stretches a further 50mm to improve airflow and design.
The exterior welcomes a new V-shaped detail and revised front and rear bumper bars as well, with changes resulting in 20mm added to the vehicle’s length (now 4655mm). Width (1890mm) and height (1605mm) dimensions carry over.
Some changes have been made to the interior, mainly to improve practicality. The wireless phone charger, for example, is repositioned to the upper part of the console, and a new button has been installed on the ‘Universal Island’ for first row seat heating/cooling, parking assist and heated steering wheel control.
The steering wheel itself is updated to include interactive pixel lights (like on the IONIQ 6), and the climate control buttons and controls for the multimedia system have been updated to enhance operational convenience, Hyundai says. It should be easier to use, in other words.
In terms of technology, the IONIQ 5 receives Hyundai’s next-gen ‘connected car Navigation Cockpit’ (ccNC), which offers over-the-air update capability. It looks like some new (and potentially annoying) safety systems are added in as well, including something called a Hands-On Detection (HOD) steering wheel, Lane Keeping Assist 2, and Remote Smart Parking Assist 2.
Hyundai says it has included a number of “customer-preferred” features as well, such as the Intelligent Front Lighting System, Digital Key 2, Built-In Cam 2, and second row remote seat folding as standard. Australian specs are yet to be confirmed, however.
Perhaps the most exciting element of all is the introduction of an N Line package. This is a first for an IONIQ model. The pack adds in a bespoke aero kit with front and rear bumper bars, side skirts, and a set of 20-inch aluminium wheels.
Inside, the N Line kit includes a unique steering wheel and dash, N Line pedals and sporty seats, red stitching in some areas, and a black roof-liner. There is no mention of any hardware upgrades, such as sports suspension or brakes.
Hyundai Australia confirms the new model is scheduled to arrive locally around the middle of 2024. Final specs and prices will be announced closer to launch.
