We all love a cool station wagon, and BMW Australia has just confirmed a new model that could spike some interest in this field. Meet the 2025 BMW i5 M60 Touring xDrive.
Aside from featuring one of the longest car model names ever, this is going to be a relatively exciting model. We say ‘relative’ because, at the moment, there are no really fast, handling-focused station wagons currently on the market, with full electric power.
Yep, the new 5 Series wagon is fully electric (Australian lineup, anyway). It shares the same 84kWh battery system and twin-motor setup as the i5 M60 sedan, offering 442kW of power and 800Nm of torque. That’s enough to catapult the stately wagon from 0-100km/h in a claimed 3.9 seconds.
The electric system offers DC fast-charging at up to 205kW, with a full charge range of 506km on the WLTP cycle. It also offers AC charging speeds of up to 22kW, which is still quite unique in Australia as a standard setup (some EVs offer optional 22kW AC capability).
It’d want to be included though as the starting price of this slick new wagon is big enough to dissolve your pockets in seconds. Prices start from $219,900 (excluding on-roads). However, think of it as like an M5 wagon, without the V8 noise and hardcore M components, but with more technology.
Being an M Performance vehicle, the M60 does come with various performance highlights, such as M Sport suspension with adaptive dampers, M Sport brakes, Integral Active Steering (rear-wheel steering), and M Sport seats and 20-inch alloy wheels.
Passengers are treated to a 14.9-inch multi-media screen with a 12.3-inch display for the instrument cluster, along with Swarovski ‘CraftedClarity’ glass iDrive, gear selector and start button, with tunes sent through a 17-speaker Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system.
Boot space is rated at 570L in the default layout, but if the rear seats are folded down that expands to 1700L. The rear seats work on a 40:20:40 split-fold mechanism. There’s also extra storage under the boot floor.
The new model is set to arrive in Australia during the third quarter of this year with prices starting from $219,900, as mentioned. See below for the highlight standard features:
