2025 BMW 540d xDrive price confirmed for Australia, 48V 3.0L diesel

BMW Australia has announced the price for its new 5 Series variant, the 540d xDrive. Set to join the range later this year, the diesel sedan will provide customers with a compelling new option that combines performance, efficiency, and luxury.

Powered by the trusty TwinPower 3.0-litre inline-six diesel engine, the 540d xDrive generates an impressive 223kW and 670Nm. This package is paired with BMW’s latest 48-volt mild-hybrid technology, enhancing efficiency and providing a boost of up to 13kW and 200Nm when needed.

The result is a seamless blend of power and economy, achieving the 0-100km/h sprint in a claimed 5.2 seconds. Fuel economy numbers for Australia are yet to be confirmed, but they are likely to be similar to the overseas spec which is rated between 5.8-6.3L/100km.

The mild-hybrid system is designed to optimise the driving experience by serving as a starter motor, delivering additional power during acceleration, and recuperating energy during braking. This ensures that the 540d xDrive is not only quick off the line but also efficient.

Inside, the interior draws inspiration from the BMW 7 Series, with lots of high-quality materials and the latest BMW Operating System 8.5. This incorporates a 14.9-inch main media screen and a 12.3-inch gauge cluster.

Some of the standard highlights include an 18-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system, Merino leather upholstery, a panoramic glass roof, and BMW’s ‘Iconic Glow’ exterior lighting package.

In addition to the 540d xDrive, BMW Australia’s 5 Series lineup includes the 520i and the fully electric i5 eDrive40 and i5 M60 xDrive variants. Later this year, the range will expand further with the introduction of the fully electric i5 M60 xDrive Touring.

The 2025 540d will hit showrooms during the fourth quarter, with prices starting from $134,900 (excluding on-road costs).
