BMW has unveiled the updated M4 and M4 Competition for 2025, showcasing a revised design, new technologies, and even more power for the top models.
Starting with the power, the entry model retains the 3.0-litre twin-turbo inline-six, developing 353kW and 550Nm. It continues to be available with a six-speed manual and continues with rear-wheel drive.
Stepping up to the M4 Competition sees output lifted to 375kW and 650Nm, as before. It’s matched to an eight-speed automatic with rear-wheel drive. Acceleration from 0-100km/h is claimed in 3.9 seconds.
New for the 2025 model is a boosted engine for the M4 Competition xDrive AWD models (with switchable RWD). The same S58 3.0-litre unit continues but power is increased to an impressive 390kW, which is insane for its size. Peak torque remains at 650Nm, but is now spread from 2750-5730rpm, from 2750-5500rpm in the regular Competition.
This setup propels the coupe from 0-100km/h in just 3.5 seconds, or 3.7 seconds in the convertible variant. As you’d imagine, it becomes the quickest M3/M4 ever. The top speed is limited to 250km/h, but it can be increased to 280km/h in the convertible or 290km/h in the coupe by opting for the M Driver’s Package.
Aside from the new top dog, the exterior styling has been lightly updated, with optimised cooling, reshaped air intakes in the front end, new headlights, and a carbon fibre roof comes standard on all coupe variants. Both the regular and Competition versions come with 18-inch front and 19-inch rear forged alloy wheels, while the xDrive models feature 19- and 20-inch M forged light alloy items.
Various changes are made inside, with BMW’s 8.5 multimedia system taking centre stage. It incorporates a 14.9-inch curved media screen and blended 12.3-inch cluster display. Unfortunately (in our opinion) there are fewer physical buttons and more operations embedded into the big screen.
BMW is launching more customisations options with the update so customers can personalise their order even more. An M Carbon package can spruce up the exterior, or buyers can go for the M Race Track package with carbon ceramic brakes, M Carbon seats, and various forged wheel options. New decal packs are also available.
The new model will go into production for global markets from March this year. BMW Australia is yet to announce local details and prices, but we will update this story when we hear more.
